Most people start their water tank search by looking for a standard size. It makes sense. You want something that fits, holds enough water, and doesn’t cost a fortune. But standard sizes rarely match the spot you actually have.
That’s where a custom tank changes things. At gmTANKS, we make every tank to order from Bluescope Aquaplate steel. Below we’ll cover why that’s worth it, what you gain by dealing straight with the people who build your tank, and how delivery works across NSW and the ACT.
A tank built to fit your space
Every property is different. The gap down the side of the house, the corner of the yard, the slab near the shed. A standard tank forces you to work around its shape. A custom water tank does the opposite.
We build in a range of shapes and profiles to suit the room you’ve got:
- Round is the most cost effective way to store water, with a minimum diameter of 900mm.
- Slimline is the answer when space is tight, going as narrow as 500mm wide.
- Squareline gives you a premium look while making the most of the volume, available between 900mm and 1150mm wide.
Steel tanks reach up to 20,000 litres in Slimline and Squareline, and up to 22,000 litres for round tanks. So you’re matching the tank to your space and your water needs, not squeezing your plans to fit a box off a shelf.
Why steel, and why Aquaplate
Bluescope Aquaplate steel is made specifically for storing rainwater. The steel is zinc coated on both sides, lined on the inside with a hot bonded food-grade polymer, and finished on the outside with a Colorbond layer. It’s designed to hold potable drinking water and complies with Australian Standard AS 4020:1999.
A few things steel does well:
- It’s strong. Aquaplate won’t bulge or split when the tank is full.
- It lasts. Our tanks come with a 10 year manufacturer’s warranty, plus Bluescope’s 20 year Aquaplate warranty.
- It looks the part. The corrugated finish comes in traditional galvanised or a range of Colorbond colours that can match your roof and fencing.
- It handles fire. Steel is fire resistant, which counts for a lot in a bushfire prone area.
There’s an environmental case too. An independent Life Cycle Analysis by the University of Newcastle’s Centre for Sustainable Technology found Aquaplate steel tanks have the lowest overall environmental impact compared to concrete and poly. To put a number on it, the annual environmental burden of an Aquaplate steel tank is about the same as running one 100W light bulb for a week.
The value of dealing direct with the manufacturer
When you order from gmTANKS, you’re talking to the people who actually build the tank. There’s no middle man passing your details along and adding a margin.
That helps in a few practical ways. You get accurate advice about what will work for your site, because we’ve made thousands of these. If a different shape or size would save you money, we’ll tell you before you order. And when your measurements are unusual, we can build to them rather than telling you it can’t be done.
Dealing direct also keeps the process simple. One conversation, one quote, one team responsible for the tank from the first cut to delivery. If you’ve got a question, you’re asking the manufacturer, not a reseller reading off a spec sheet.
Delivery across NSW and the ACT
We deliver across New South Wales and the ACT. When you request a quote, you tell us your delivery state and suburb, and we factor delivery into the price so there are no surprises later.
Our tanks suit residential, industrial and rural jobs, and they’re fine for BASIX mandated water storage. Whether you’re harvesting rainwater at home, storing grey water, or setting up stormwater detention, we can build and deliver a tank that fits.
